Best Of British – Summer Adventure Spots
Summer is here and there’s no better time to head out for a spontaneous adventure. We’ve got some of the most mesmerising scenery and geography anywhere on the planet, right here in Britain. Whether you fancy a weekend by the sea, something to do in the big smoke or to simply head somewhere you’ve never headed before, then read on to discover our favourite adventures that this remarkable little isle has to offer!
Surf and Stand Up Paddle – Burgh Island
This beautiful spot located on the South Coast of Devon is steeped in history adding to its ridiculous beauty and charm. The island itself features an ancient public house, ‘The Pilchard Inn’, as well as the 1920s-made art-deco hotel, which was frequented by the late Agatha Christie. Burgh Island was actually the setting for both ‘Soldier Island’ and ‘Evil Under The Sun’. Discovery Surf School is located opposite Burgh Island and offers both surf and stand up paddle lessons or hire. So depending on the conditions, you can surf the Atlantic swell or head for a paddle around the Island and find some hidden treasures.
River Explorations – Aviemore
Situated in the stunning Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, Aviemore has it all… secluded lochs, ancient forest, mountain trails and ski runs all set in remarkable rolling hills and parkland. With a whole host of activities for you to choose from, it’s going to be tough fitting it all in. An absolute must for us is a dabble with a paddle down the River Spey, as experienced by our Logistics Manager, Chris Henton.
“Overall it was an incredible adventure! Meandering along the Spey and taking in the abundant countryside and wildlife. The river offers both serene passages and more challenging stretches – we successfully managed to capsize whilst attempting to navigate a path through an area known as the ‘washing machine’. Hurrah for waterproof phones!”
Summer Festival – Alexandra Palace
Giant water slide you say? We’re in! And you don’t even need to leave the smoke. Music stages, theatre, outdoor cinema, silent discos, family raves and the giant water slide (OK, we really like the sound of that) – Summer Festival has it all. And the best bit… it’s free! One of the most legendary music venues world over, situated between Muswell Hill and Wood Green, Alexandra Palace has played host to some of the most memorable shows the capital has ever seen! The festival celebrates the enterprising spirit and musical heritage of London’s cherished Ally Pally.
Day Tripping – Margate
In less than two hours on the train from London, you’ll find yourself in the Kent seaside town of Margate! Now aptly nicknamed ‘Shoreditch-On-Sea’, Margate has seen a rapid rise in popularity with it being located so close to the capital. Nothing beats the feeling of sand between your toes and a dip in the sea on a warm sunny day and Margate boasts some wonderful beaches. It is, however, ‘Dreamland’ that we’re constantly drawn to. The UK’s original theme park was at the forefront of Margate’s regeneration and has been performing to packed crowds ever since. The theme park is filled to the brim with historic rides, classic side shows, food stands and evocative spaces used for various events. This summer Dreamland is even seeing the likes of The Libertines, Everything Everything and Metronomy grace its shores for epic sunset sessions.
Happy exploring! We’ve curated an epic collection for all of your Out & About needs. From backpacks to bike helmets, and everything in-between!
