GoTenna keeps you connected even without service

Ever found that it’s those times when you really, really need service that you’ve got no reception?

Like if you were sat in a mosquito infested toilet with the runs in Mexico and there’s no toilet paper and you desperately need to phone a friend.  That’s just one (totally made up) example.  You might be at a festival and all the reception is jammed, or you’re on an adventure camping with friends and need to contact the other party members.

GoTenna’s motto is “No service? No Problem”.  This simple bit of kit allows you to text and share your location even if you don’t have service. You can create individual or group networks – regardless of cell service or wifi.  The range of this communication averages from 1 – 6 miles but can reach up to 50 miles in ideal locations. In built up areas where concrete and cell towers are interfering the range is naturally less but the further you are away from such monstrosities the wider the range of the device. So if you are off hiking or sailing – leave the wired society behind in the comforting knowledge that you are still reachable (should anything happen) but not nag-able.

This device was invented when the unthinkable did happen and the East Coast of America was hit by Hurricane Sandy leaving people in the tristate area unable to contact their friends and loved ones. If we can put men on the moon, surely we can contact others in a natural disaster? Yes. Daniela and Jorge Perdomo started on the road to creating the solution. If such a disaster does hit, with a GoTenna you are able to send a Shout out to anyone with a GoTenna in range.

Weighing 2 ounces and being 147.3 mm x 25.4 mm x 12.7 mm (when extended, adds 2.2 in or 55.8 mm) this nifty device won’t even remotely weigh you down. It has a clasp on the back to connect to a bag or belt loop. GoTenna will last up to 72 hours with intermittent use, 30 hours if on 24/7 and can hold its battery for more than a year when turned off according to the company.

Messages are end-to-end encrypted and not stored anywhere. They also can be set to self-destruct once the recipient reads it. We have all experienced those crossing frequency lines during attempted walkie-talkie chat.
